The expectations and hopes of the Birkirkara and Valletta supporters have long been in the minds of the respective clans. ‘D’ Day is Saturday 26th April at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali, with a kick-off at 17.00 hrs.  The eyes of the fans and those of other neutral spectators who should fill the stands at the stadium will be firmly focused on the field of play where the contestants are expected to put in their last supreme efforts to lift the the BOV Champions’ title of the 2013-2014 season. It has been a long and arduous campaign for both these protagonists. The Stripes led most of the way thanks to an impressive run of victories, only halted when the Lilywhites managed to cut the leeway to two points in the teams’ first clash of the championship pool. That advantage for Birkirkara means that they only have to avoid defeat to retain the coveted title, which would be their fifth success. On their part, Valletta will surely dig deep into their undoubted reserves of knowhow and big-match experience in order to ovecome their opponents and claim their 21st championship honour. Both teams are finely balanced and the outcome is highly unpredictable. Form and match episodes on the day are the mitigating factors on which the result depends. The National Stadium will surely be the grand stage of Maltese football on Thursday. Whatever the result, the destination of the biggest honour in Maltese football will be known by about 7.00 pm. The match will certainly offer nerve-tingling moments for the numerous supporters of both teams and this in the best traditions of the Maltese game.
