Gianluca Lia With the domestic league approaching its end, Birkirkara will commence their final 3 fixtures by facing two tough opponents, Mgarr United and Raiders (Luxol), before their final encounter against rivals Hibernians. Knowing that Hibernians won’t be facing the toughest of opponents in Pembroke in their next match, the Stripes have to be at the peak of their form to overcome this obstacle. On the other hand, Mgarr United will face Birkirkara without fear aiming to secure at least a point from this match which would help them in their 3rd place battle alongside Raiders (Luxol). From their previous couple of meetings, both teams have a win in their favour with Birkirkara having the edge over Mgarr in the K/O quarterfinal in an exciting 1-0 win after extra time back in March. This final encounter promises to be an exciting one as both teams are striving towards their aims in the final fixtures of the season.  From Birkirkara: Johann Scicluna, Birkirkara’s coach, highlighted the positive atmosphere which reigns amongst his players. He also added that despite not being joint-leaders with Hibernians after they were deducted 3 points for having utilised a young player against Pembroke, he is satisfied with his team’s performances while underlining the fact that leaders Hibernians have not won an encounter yet against them this season. Asked about his team’s fitness, coach Johann Scicluna said that it is a normal issue having few players not at the top of their fitness level after their busy month with the national team. He eased off the pressure from his team by saying that his team has no pressure in being behind Hibernians and that at the end of the season, the league trophy will be lifted by the best team.  From Mgarr United: Mgarr United’s captain and international player, Antoinette Sammut defined this match as one of the most challenging this season and after they have beaten them in their last league encounter, in her opinion it is not impossible to repeat that result. On the other hand though, it won’t be easy since Birkirkara need to win to remain in the title challenge. Sammut also expressed her thoughts about this season’s performance of her team and said that it was a season full of ups down. She mentioned the win against Birkirkara as one of the highlights this season while referring to the loss of points against smaller teams as a setback which they must work upon next season.
