Malta WNT U-17 will be involved in their second UEFA Women’s U-17 European Championship qualifications next October, where they will be facing Slovenia, Finland and Italy, in Group 11.  The qualifying stage will be held in Slovenia between October 23 and October 29 of next year. Malta will commence its appointments against Italy on the 23rd while three days later they will take on Finland. On the final day, Malta will cross swords with hosts Slovenia. The first two teams will qualify to the elite round while the best third place team will join them as well. Undoubtedly, Italy, ranked 17, are the huge favourites to win this group, being the most experienced team among the four sides. The Azzurri’s best performance in this tournament was registered in 2014, when they finished third place, months before finishing once again on the podium as bronze medallists in the 2014 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup. On the other hand, Finland and Slovenia have never reached such heights in any major competitions, but they are still occupying respectable spots in the FIFA Rankings, at 28th and 59th positions respectively. Malta marked its debut in this competition last October, when in a tough group hosted by Greece, they managed to end their commitments in third place, having collected the three points against Montenegro on their last fixture. Sweden and Greece were their other opponents, against whom Malta put up two brave performances.
