Birkirkara will win the BOV Women’s Division One title if they beat Kirkop United this evening at the Charles Abela Stadium in Mosta (kick-off 8.15pm). Shawn Meilak’s team currently lead the Division One standings with 46 points, 10 ahead of defending champions Hibernians, and are still unbeaten after 16 matches. While Hibernians have the best attacking record with 54 goals scored, the Stripes, chasing their sixth championship, boast an excellent defensive record with only four goals conceded, underlining their resilience which has defined their season so far.Birkirkara are on the verge of recapturing the title for the first time since their success in 2012/2013 as Hibernians won the championship in the last three seasons.Defender Mariah Sciberras, one of Birkirkara’s best players this season, has encouraged the fans to support the team in tonight’s match. ‘’As always, we encourage anyone who can make it, to come and give us their support. Be our 12th player on the pitch,” Sciberras told the Birkirkara FC website.Meanwhile, Hibernians take on Mġarr United as they aim to consolidate second spot before shifting their attention to the domestic cup which is their best hope of silverware this season. The match between Hibernians and Mġarr United will be played at the Mġarr Ground at 8.15pm.
