Div. Three leaders Kalkara maintain title push

Kalkara, who have already secured promotion, made another massive step towards the championship on Monday night after beating Xgħajra Tornadoes 3-1.  Ryan Sell hit a brace, on 13 and 45 minutes, either side of Timmy Thomas’s penalty strike to put Kalkara 3-0 up at half-time. Julian Spiteri committed an unfortunate an own goal on 75 minutes to make the score 3-1 as Xgħajra slipped out of contention for promotion.On the same night, Mdina Knights surprisingly beat Kirkop United 3-1. Dylan Mintoff opened the scoring after 20 minutes followed by Daniel Cremona on 41 minutes and Mark Saliba on 54 minutes. Substitute Ruben Scicluna scored a late consolidation for Kirkop three minutes from time. Luqa St Andrew’s have all but achieved promotion after seeing off Santa Venera Lightnings 2-0 in the second match on Friday evening. Leeroy Bonnett and Waylon Spiteri scored the goals on 52 and 69 minutes respectively. This defeat has seriously dented Sta Venera’s promotion hopes. In the first match on Friday evening, Santa Luċija also maintained their promotion push with a 2-0 victory over Mtarfa.Gaynor Damato struck a brace inside the first 20 minutes.
