Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, has sent a letter to Norman Darmanin Demajo, the President of the Malta FA, expressing his condolences following the death of former Malta captain Ronnie Cocks. Cocks, who played 21 times for Malta, passed away on May 16, aged 73. “Please accept my deepest condolences on hearing that the former Sliema Wanderers icon and captain of the Malta national football team, Ronnie Cocks, has passed away,” Infantino wrote. Cocks spent most of his career with Sliema Wanderers, winning an array of honours with the Blues. He was also named MFA Footballer of the Year for the 1965/66 season and captained Malta on 13 occasions. “On behalf of the members of the international football community, I would be grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” the head of the world football body added. “We would hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.” The Malta FA held a minute’s silence in memory of Cocks before the FA Trophy final between Floriana and Sliema Wanderers last Saturday. Sliema Wanderers players wore t-shirts paying tribute to Cocks before Saturday’s game.
