Champions Luxol St Andrews began the 2017/18 futsal season on a flying note after winning the Super Cup at the expense of Ħamrun Tre Angeli on Thursday.  The final, played in front of a sizeable crowd at the Corradino Sports Pavilion, was an entertaining affair as both teams showed a high level of play but Luxol were clearly the better side to cruise to a 9-3 victory. Ħamrun enjoyed a strong start as captain Jason Mifsud opened the scoring after only five seconds. A minute and a half later, Rogerio Dos Santos, who was facing his former team-mates, made it 1-1.  Luxol gained control and goals from Emil Raducu, Glenn Bonello and George Frendo gave them a 4-1 lead going into the half-time break. Inside the first two minutes of the second half, Rogerio Dos Santos scored a brace to all but seal Luxol’s win. Everton Dos Santos responded with a brace of his own to narrow the deficit for Ħamrun Tre Angeli but there was no easing up from Luxol who pulled further clear with strikes from Emil Raducu, Mark Zammit and Zvezdan Vukovic. At the end of the match, Luxol captain Mark Zammit was presented with the Super Cup trophy by Dr Matthew Paris, the Malta FA vice-president who oversees the futsal sector. Dr Paris was accompanied by FMA official Mireille Vella.
