The nomination of Charles Deguara as member of the UEFA Governance and Compliance Committee was ratified by the European body’s 13th Extraordinary Congress, held today at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr Deguara, the Auditor General of the National Audit Office, is also a member of the Malta FA Appeals Board. “On behalf of the Malta FA, I congratulate Charles Deguara on his appointment as member of the UEFA Governance and Compliance Committee,” Norman Darmanin Demajo, the Malta FA President, said. “It is an honour for our country and Maltese football in general that UEFA has chosen Mr Deguara for this important post which has been ratified by UEFA’s member associations at today’s Extraordinary Congress.” The other new member of the UEFA Governance and Compliance Committee is Josè Juan Pinto Sala, a Spanish lawyer and Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Arbitrator. Mr Deguara and Dr Sala were appointed as independent members of the above-mentioned committee by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Cardiff on 1st June, 2017. Also during today’s Congress, UEFA’s member associations approved two representatives of the European Club Association (ECA) to sit on the UEFA Executive Committee as full members for a four-year term of office: Andrea Agnelli (Juventus FC/Italy) and Ivan Gazidis (Arsenal FC/England). The Congress also elected Alexey Sorokin (Russia) by acclamation as a new European member of the FIFA Council for a term of office lasting until 2021.
