  • 01 November 2015  An interview with FIFA Referee Clayton Pisani was published in the Sunday newspaper ILLUM.


  • 02 November 2015  Director of Refereeing Adrian D. Casha was guest on the Monday evening Radio 101 sports programme Replay Ikompli hosted by Christian Micallef, during which he was interviewed on current refereeing matters in Malta.


  • 03 to 05 November 2015  FIFA Futsal Referee Franco Cachia was invited to join Europe’s top 35 Futsal Referees for the 9th UEFA Course for European International Futsal Refereesshortlisted for Futsal EURO 2016 being held in Serbia next February.  The aims of this 3-day intensive course at the Serbian FA Sports Centre in Stara Pazova, were to: prepare the top match officials and build team spirit for the UEFA Futsal EURO 2016, provide all participants with technical instructions and reach a uniform interpretation and application of the Laws of the Game, further enhance the network of international futsal referees, give advice on maintaining necessary fitness levels (including fitness test), issue criteria to assist the decision-making process on key situations, and exchange viewpoints. The selected referees had to pass the FIFA fitness test; also, as a FIFA requirement, they were tested on their knowledge of English.  The course was under the supervision of UEFA Officials Ángel María Villar Llona, Chairman, and Kyros Vassaras, member, of the Referees Committee; while physical trainers Prof. Dr. Werner Helsen, Joao Dias and Milan Radakovic were Support Staff.


  • 05 November 2015  Director of Refereeing Adrian D. Casha and Refereeing Operations Administrator Kevin Azzopardi met with the Women’s Football Standing Committee at MFA Headquarters to discuss the season so far and how operations and mutual cooperation can be improved between match officials and players/club officials.


  • 09 November 2015  Referees’ Committee meeting chaired by Alex Manfrè, Malta FA Vice-President.


  • 10 to 15 November 2015  The Malta FA appointed local officials FIFA Assistatnt Referee Jurgen Spiteri and Elite Referee Trustin Farrugia Cann to act as assistant referee and 4th Official respectively, during the European Under-19 Championship 2016 Qualifying Round / Group 6 mini-tournament played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Ħamrun and at Hibernians Stadium in Paola.  The teams taking part with hosts Maltawere Israel, Denmark and Iceland.  The referees were Neil Doyle (Ireland), Tihomir Pejin (Croatia) and Daniel Stefanski (Poland); while the other assistant referees were Wayne McDonnell (Ireland), Goran Pataki (Croatia) and Marcin Boniek (Poland).  UEFA officials Roger Gifford (Wales) and Hans Reijgwart (Nederlands)were the Referee Observers; while  Ivan Borissav Lekov (Bulgara) was the Delegate.


  • 12 November 2015  UEFA appointed FIFA Referee Esther Azzopardifor the UEFA Women's Champions League2015/2016 Round of 16 Group 4 Matchday 6, SK Slavia Praha (Czech Republic) vs WFC Zvezda 2005 (Russia) played at the Eden Stadium, in Prague, Czech Republic.  She assisted by FIFA Assistant Referees Angela Kyriakou (Cyprus) and Sanja Rođak Karšić (Croatia), while Zuzana Spindlerova (Czech Republic) acted as4th Official. UEFA appointed Referees’ Committee member in charge of Women’s Football Bo Karlsson (Sweden) to assess the performance of Esther Azzopardi and her team, while Myrsini Psarropoulou (Greece) was the Match Delegate


  • 12 November 2015  Following an invitation by the Andorran Football Federation, FIFA Referee Adrian Azzopardi was in charge of the Friendly ‘A’ International Andorra vs St Kitts and Nevisplayed at the Estadi Comunal in Andorra la Vella.  His team of FIFA Match Officials consisted of Mitchell Scerri and William Debattista as assistant referees, and Marco Borg as 4th Official.


  • 13 November 2015  In its continuous efforts to prepare young match officials for the future of refereeing in Malta, the MFA Refereeing Department launched the third cycle of its Talent & Mentor Programme.Promising referees Darryl Agius, Shaun Calleja, Tyron Cardona, Kieran Parnis, Daniel Portelli and Theodore Zammit, and up and coming assistant referees Christopher Azzopardi, Ivan Galea, Dusan Petrovic and Andre Psaila are the 10 talented match officials selected to follow a two-year specialised programme under the guidance of their mentors Philip Agius, Paul Caruana, Gaetano De Gabriele and Stephen Mallia. The 2015-2017 Talent & Mentor Programme is being coordinated by Referees’ Development Officer Kevin Azzopardi, who has recently taken this new responsibility from Victor Mintoff.Addressing the new intake of talents, accompanied by their mentors, Director of Refereeing Adrian D. Casha congratulated them and encouraged them to “make the best out of this massive opportunity by developing yourselves into 10 top match officials. We are extending to you the necessary tools and support.  Hopefully, in 5 years’ time, you will be officiating top level football.”


  • 13 to 18 November 2015  FIFA Referee Alan Mario Sant was appointed by UEFA to take charge of matches in the European Under-19 Championship 2016 Qualifying Round Group 1, played in the Republic of Ireland.  The Malta FA Refereeing Department appointed FIFA Assistant Referee Roberto Vella to participate in this mini-tournament together with the other match officials from Finland, Iceland and Republic of Ireland. The participating teams with hosts Republic of Ireland were Scotland, Slovenia and Latvia.  UEFA Referee Observers Emil Bozhinovski (Macedonia)and Vlado Svilokos (Croatia)were appointed to assess the performances of match officials at this mini-tournament; while  Miroslaw Ryszka (Poland)was the appointed UEFA Delegate.


  • 21-22 November 2015  As part of the referee exchange agreement with the Georgian Football Federation, a team of Maltese officials controlled two matches in the top division of professional footballin Georgia, as follows: on Saturday 21st, FIFA Referee Clayton Pisani wasin charge of the Spartaki Tskhinvali vs Sioni Bolnisi match at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium; while on Sunday 22nd, Elite Referee Philip Farrugiawas in charge of the Dinamo Tbilisi vs FC Samtredia match at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena.  Clayton Pisani and Philip Farrugia alternated their roles as referee/4th official; while FIFA Assistant Referee Jurgen Spiteri and Elite Assistant Referee Martin Borg were the other members of the refereeing team. UEFA Referee Observers Jorn West Larsen (Denmark) and Levan Paniashvili (Georgia) were at both matches.


  • 28-29 November 2015  As part of the referee exchange agreement with the San Marino Football Federation, a team of Maltese officials controlled two matches in the top division league in San Marino, as follows: on Saturday 28th, Elite Referee Fyodor Zammit was in charge of the La Fiorita vs Folgorematchat Domagnano; while on Sunday 29th, Elite Referee Malcolm Spiteriwas in charge of the Tre Penne vs Pennarossamatchat Montecchio.  Fyodor Zammit and Malcolm Spiteri alternated their roles as referee/4th official; while Elite Assistant RefereesPaul Apap and Ryan Aquilina were appointed for both matches.  The team of officials was accompanied by Referee Observer Reynold Balzan, who was on duty for the matches Cosmos vs Tre Fiori on Saturday 28th, and the day after for Domagnano vs Cailungo; both matches were played at FC Fiorentino stadium.


·        30 November 2015  A Technical Meeting for Match Officialsand Referee Observerswas held at the Centenary Hall, Ta’ Qali, with the following programme:‘Administrative Matters’and ‘Authority and Control’by Director of Refereeing Adrian D. Casha; and ‘Consistency in Match Reporting’by Refereeing Operations Administrator Kevin Azzopardi.  At the start of the meeting, as a token of appreciation, a presentation was made to former Referees’ Development Officer Victor Mintoff and mentors Philip Agius, Alexander Spiteri and Gaetano De Gabriele for their input towards the success of the Talent & Mentor Programme 2013-2015.
