MARCH  2016

 

 

  • 01 March 2016  Official of the Year 2015  FIFA referee Clayton Pisani, together with the other winners, were invited for a meeting with the Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister of Educationresponsible also for sport.

 

  • 04 March 2016  Director of Refereeing Adrian D. Casha, lectured on The Comprehensive Review of the Laws of the Gameduring a Live-In for Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery Coaches, at their Tignè Complex.

 

  • 06 March 2016  Referees’ Committee meeting chaired by Alex Manfrè, Malta FA Vice-President.

 

  • 11 March 2016  Adrian D. Casha tendered his resignation as Director of Refereeing during a meeting with Malta Football Association President Norman Darmanin Demajo.  The Refereeing Department’s Administrator, Kevin Azzopardi, was appointed as Acting Director of Refereeing.

 

  • 21 March 2016  A meeting for all Match Officials and Referee Observers was held at the Centenary Hall.  Attendees were addressed by Messrs Alexie Tabone, Malta Football Referees’ Association President, Kevin Azzopardi, Malta Football Association Acting Director of Refereeing, and Norman Darmanin Demajo, Malta Football Association President.  Those attending were given the opportunity to express their views.

 

·        24 March 2106  FIFA referee Trustin Farrugia Cann was appointed by the Malta FA as 4th official during the Malta vs Moldova International ‘A’ Friendly match played at Ta’ Qali National Stadium,  which was controlled by a trio of FIFA officials from Estonia, namely Roomer Tarajev (referee), Hannes Reinvald and Dmitri Vinogradov (assistant referees).

 

  • 24 to 28 March 2016  Following their successful participation in the UEFA Girls’ Under-16 Youth Development Tournament on local soil last month, same Maltese officials – Shaun Calleja, Daniel Portelli, Dusan Petrovic, Darryl Agius, Kieran Parnis, Theodore Zammit, Ivan Galea, Christopher Azzopardi – were appointed for the UEFA Boys’ Under-16 Youth Development Tournament played at the Centenary Stadium.  The participating teams with hosts Malta were Azerbaijan, Belarus and Liechtenstein.  The referee observer again was Mr Antonio P. Briguglio. All matches were filmed by Mr Mario Pisani for educational use during the Talent & Mentor Seminar being held at the end of the current season.

 

  • 24 to 29 March 2016  FIFA Referee Fyodor Zammit, assisted by FIFA Assistant Referee Jurgen Spiteri, was appointed by UEFA to take charge of his first international matches during the European Under-19 Championship 2016 Elite Round Group 1, played in Spain.  Other appointed match officials were from France, Austria and Spain. The participating teams with hosts Spain were England, Greece and Georgia. The first appointment for Fyodor Zammit (as 4th Official) and Jurgen Spiteri was the Spain - Greece match played atEstadio Municipal Ciudad in Lepe.  Their first match together as referee and assistant referee was Spain - Georgia played at Estadio Luis Rodriguez Salvador in Cartaya.  On the final matchday, Fyodor Zammit and Jurgen Spiteri were together again as referee and assistant referee during the Georgia - Greece match played at Estadio Luis Rodriguez Salvador in Cartaya.  UEFA Referee Observers Uno Tutk (Estonia) and Nikolai Ivanov (Russia)wereappointed to assess the performances of match officials at this mini-tournament.  Arturs Gaidels (Latvia) was the appointed UEFA Delegate.

 

·        28 March 2106  The Malta FA appointed FIFA officialsDuncan Sultana and Roberto Vella (assistant referees) and Esther Azzopardi (4th official) in the team of FIFA referee Johnny Casanova from San Marino, during theMoldova vs Andorra International ‘A’ Friendly match played at Hibernians Stadium in Paola.

 

  • 28 March to 02 April 2016  FIFA Referee Trustin Farrugia Cann, assisted by FIFA Assistant Referee Luke Portelli, was appointed by UEFA to take charge of his first international matches during the European Under-17 Championship 2016 Elite Round Group 1, played in the Czech Republic.  Other appointed match officials were from Lithuania, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. The participating teams with hosts Czech Republic were Denmark, Switzerland and Scotland.  The first appointment for Trustin Farrugia Cann (as 4th Official) and Luke Portelli was the Czech Republic - Switzerland match played atMÄ›stský Stadium in Uherské Hradište. Their first match together as referee and assistant referee was Czech Republic - Scotland played at Letná Stadium in Zlín. On the final matchday, Trustin Farrugia Cann and Luke Portelli were together again as referee and assistant referee during the Scotland - Switzerland match played at the Širuch Stadium in Staré Mêsto.  UEFA Referee Observers Patrick Kelly (Ireland) and Leif Lindberg (Sweden)were appointed to assess the performances of match officials at this mini-tournament.  Yauheni Tratsiuk (Belarus)was the appointed UEFA Delegate.

 

  • 29 March 2016  Maltese FIFA officials were in charge of two International ‘A’ Friendly matches, as follows:  Gibraltar– Latvia at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar, was controlled by referee Alan Mario Sant, assistant referees Alan Camilleri and Edward Spiteri, and 4th Official Yaroslaff Borg (Gibraltar Football Association); while Georgia – Kazakhstan at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi, was controlled byreferee Clayton Pisani, sssistant referees Mitchell Scerri and William Debattista, 4th Official Georgi Vadachkoria(Georgian Football Federation).

 

  • 30 March 2016  End of Referees Course (which started on 20 January 2016) with a written examination, oral examination, and  fitness test conducted by Messrs Kevin Azzopardi, Victor Mintoff and Gaetano De Gabriele, and Ronald Zammit, respectively.
