  • 02 April 2016  An interview with FIFA referee Esther Azzopardi entitled Whistling Her Way to the Top by Carla Formosa, was published in the Man Matters Supplement of the daily newspaper Times of Malta.

 

  • 6 April 2016  Referees’ Committee Meeting chaired by Alex Manfrè, Malta FA Vice-President.

 

  • 08-09 April 2016  As part of a Referee Exchange agreement with the Football Association of Wales, Elite officials took charge of two Welsh Premier League matches, as follows:Friday 8th–(Championship)MBi Llandudno vs Newtown,refereeMatthew De Gabriele; Saturday 9th–(Conference) Rhyl FC  vs Port Talbot Town FC, refereeMario Apap.  Assistant Referees for both matches were Mitchell Scerri and Martin Borg; while referees Matthew De Gabriele and Mario Apap alternated their roles as Referee / 4th Official.  The refereeing team was accompanied by Stephen Mallia, whowas assigned a different matchas Referee Observer.  This was the first time that Matthew De Gabriele participated in such a programme abroad.

 

  • 12 April 2016  FIFA Referee Esther Azzopardi officiated the European Women’s Championship 2017 Qualifying Stage Group 4 match Slovakia vs Poland, played at The National Training Centre in Poprad, Slovakia.  Her assistant referees were Biljana Atanasovski (FYR of Macedonia) and Katrin Rafalski  (Germany), with Maria Sukenikova (Slovakia)as 4th Official.  Katriina Elovirta (Finland) was the appointed UEFA Referee Observer to assess the performance of the match officials.

 

  • 21 and 27 April 2016  Following the regular football referees’ exchange programmes with a number of European Associations and Federations in recent years, the Malta FA Refereeing Department reached an agreement for the first such initiative for Futsal referees. On Thursday 21st April,refereesfrom San Marino Football Federation, namely Daniele D’Adamo and Massimo Nanni, together with localreferees, controlled the two First Division play-off matchesSliemaWanderersvs Mqabba (Referee 1 Robert Darmanin / Referee 2 Daniele D’Adamo)and Sirens vs ┼╗ebbugRangers(Referee 1 Jonathan Mallia / Referee 2 Massimo Nanni); in both matches Ms. Joanna Vassallowas timekeeper.The following Wednesday 27th April, it was the turn of our referees Clinton Mario Cassar (newly-appointedFIFA Futsal Referee) and Jonathan Mallia, to officiatein San Marinothe two First Division play-off matchesSan Giovanni vs Fiorentino (Referee 1 Jonathan Mallia / Referee 2 Marco Pagani) and Murata vs Tre Fiori(Referee 1 Clinton Mario Cassar / Referee 2 Giovanni Notarpietro).  The officials were accompanied by Adrian Caruanawho was the referee observer of both matches.This was the first international experience abroad for referees Clinton Mario Cassar and Jonathan Mallia.

 

  • 24 April 2016  As part of a Referee Exchange Programme with the Andorran Football Federation, local officials took charge of the decisive Andorran Premier LeagueTitle Play-Off(Day 5) match UE Santa Coloma vs FC Lusitans, at the FAF Training Centre.  Elite refereeGlen Tonna was accompanied by assistant referees Sammy Attard and Elvio Degabriele;while Luis Do Nascimento(Andorran Football Federation) was 4th Official.  The refereeing team was accompanied by Paul Caruana whowas appointed as referee observer of a different match. This was the first international experience abroad for assistant referee Elvio Degabriele.

 

  • 24 and 26 April 2016  Maltese officials took charge of two friendly matches between the national teams of Malta and Turkey in the Under-16 category, both played at Ta’ Qali Centenary Stadium.  Referee Andrea Naudi with assistant referees Kurt Saliba and Ryan Caruana controlled the first match; while referee Antonio Riolo with assistant referees Duncan Spencer and Massimo Axisa controlled the second one.

 

  • 26 April 2016  The final Technical Meeting for this season was held at the Centenary Hall, Ta’ Qali Centenary Stadium, with the following agenda: Training Session (at the Training Grounds) for all Elite & Elite Development Match Officials (followed by light refreshments); Video Clips (group work); and Plenary Session.
