JULY 2016

 

 

  • 01 July 2016  As part of a restructuring process ahead of the new season, the Refereeing Department launched its new, tailor-made online portal for all Match Officials and Referee Observers.  From today onwards, all appointments, availability charts, circulars and observer reports will be managed via this online portal through logging by personal passwords.

 

·        01 to 03 July 2016International beach soccer referee Jude Amin Utuluwas one of twelve officials at the Euro Beach Soccer League (EBSL) in Moscow.  This 19th edition of the annual, premier European competition in beach soccer for men's national teams, was contested by Russia, Switzerland, France and Poland in Division A Group 1; Spain, Italy, Belarus and Greece in Division A Group 2; while Moldova, Serbia, Estonia and Kazakhstan in Division B Group 1.  In all, he controlled three matches as Referee1: Switzerland–France (10-4) with Turkish female referee Yelis Topaloglu; Italy–Greece(7-2)with Roumanian referee Ciobanu Vlad; and on the final matchday together with Italian referee Alfredo Balconi, the prestigious and exciting decisive match won by hosts Russia after the taking of kicks from the penalty mark 4-3 (in normal time Switzerland managed to keep the score 7-7). 

 

·        07 July 2016  International referee Fyodor Zammit was appointed by UEFA to officiate the UEL2016/2017 1st Qualifying Round, 2nd Leg match FC ZariaBalti (Moldova)– VideotonFC (Hungary)played in Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau (Moldova).  This was Fyodor Zammit's debut as a referee in the UEFA Europa League since being included on the FIFA List on 1st January 2016.  His assistant referees appointed by the MFA Refereeing Department were FIFA officials Duncan Sultana and Roberto Vella, and Elite Referee Glen Tonna acted as 4th Official.  UEFA Referee Observer Nikolai Ivanovicfrom Russiaassessed the performance of the officials; while UEFA Match Delegate was Arturs Gaidels from Latvia.

 

·        08 July 2016  Referee Observer Antonio P. Briguglio was invited on the panel of the PBS TVM sports discussion programme France Euro 2016.  

 

·        11 to 24 July 2016  The UEFAReferees’ Committeeappointed FIFA Referee Alan Mario Santfor the 15th UEFA European Under-19 Championship, 2015/16– Final Tournament in Germany.  The match officials’ team on duty consisted of six referees, eight assistant referees and two fourth officials.  All appointed officials underwent a fitness check on artificial grass (4th generation) two days before the first match.  Kyros Vassaras (Greece) was the UEFA Committee representative on site, working alongside UEFA Referee Observers Panel members Matteo Simone Trefoloni (Italy), Terje Hauge (Norway) and Emil Bozhinovski (Macedonia).  The two groups of participating nations consisted of Group A: Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria; Group B: Croatia, The Netherlands, France, England.  Alan Mario Sant was involved in three group matches: Portugal–Austria (1-1) in Sportpark Fautenhau (Grossaspach), Croatia– France (0-2)in Städtisches Waldstadion (Aalen),and Italy–Portugal (1-1) in Stadion auf der Waldau (Stuttgart).

 

·        13 July 2016  Former referee and football administrator John R. Casha passed away, aged 88.  He leaves to mourn his loss his family, amongst whom his brother Richard Casha (ex-international referee).

 

  • 16 July 2016  Referees’ Committee Meeting chaired by Alex Manfrè, Malta FA Vice-President.

 

·        18 July 2016  An important meeting for all members of the Administrative Teamforming part of the New Refereeing Sector Structure 2016/2017,was held at the Refereeing Centre, Ta’Qali.

 

  • 21 July 2016  International referee Alan Mario Sant was appointed by UEFA to officiate the UEL 2016/2017 – 2nd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg match St Patrick’s Athletic FC (Ireland) – Dinamo Minsk (Belarus)played in Dublin’s Richmond Park.  His assistant referees appointed by the MFA Refereeing Department were FIFA officials Roberto Vella and Luke Portelli, while Elite referee Mario Apap acted as 4th Official.  UEFA Referee Observer Dragutin Karlo Poljak from Croatia assessed the performance of the officials; while UEFA Match Delegate was Loukas Siotropos from Greece.

 

28 July 2016  International referee Clayton Pisani  was appointed by UEFA to officiate the UEL 2016/2017 – 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg match Genk (Belgium) –Cork City(Republic of Ireland) played in KRC Genk Arena.  His assistant referees appointed by the MFA Refereeing Department were FIFA officials Alan Camilleri and Edward Spiteri, while Elite referee Philip Farrugia acted as 4th Official.  UEFA Referee Observer Kjell Alsethfrom Norway assessed the performance of the officials; while UEFA Match Delegate was Artur Azaryan from Armenia.
