The adventure of the three Maltese clubs in the UEFA Europa League was brought to an end as they all suffered defeats in the second legs of the first qualifying round on Thursday.

Birkirkara needed a 1-0 win to qualify but suffered a 1-4 defeat to Diosgyor of Hungary and were therefore eliminated with a 6-2 aggregate score.

Sliema Wanderers lost 2-1 to Ferencvaros in Budapest, therefore losing 2-3 on aggregate.

On the other hand, Hibernians were knocked-out following a heavy 5-0 defeat to Spartak Trnava in Slovakia. The Paolites lost 9-2 on aggregate
