The seminar directed at the igaming industry had, as part of the agenda , a presentation and discussion about manipulation in sport. Declan Hill, the famous Canadian investigative journalist author of the book “The Fix”, was invited over to Malta, to deliver the keynote address.  He recommended that his friend and colleague, MFA Integrity Officer Franz Tabone, be part of the speakers’ panel to be able to share his experiences. Following the keynote address a discussion “Keeping Sport and Wagering Scandal Free” was held between Declan Hill, Franz Tabone and Nick Hagan,Sports Operations director, Betfair and was moderated by Lee Richardson,CEO Gaming Economics. This seminar was an opportunity to show what is happening in football and who is behind the fixing of matches, these were clearly highlighted by both Hill and Tabone.  The discussion also dealt with what the betting operators are doing to comabat match-fixing, which according to Tabone is to a minimum and the operators should come forward with some solid co-operation. The Integrity Officer, yet again, appealed for support from the betting industry and law enforcers to form a united front and avoid the further decay of football. If match-fixing is not brought under control we will all be losing out. What is happening might be causing an insignificant dent to the Betting Industry, but a massive gash to football.
