The sixth edition of ‘Gowl għall-Istrina’, an annual event organised on the initiative of several representatives of sports programmes on Maltese TV stations in collaboration with the Malta Football Association, will be held onTuesday 23rd December at the Luxol Sports Grounds, St Andrews between 4.00pm and 10.00pm. Her Excellency, Hon. Dr. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, will also be in attendance for a short-time during the event.
The activity which has grown in popularity is aimed at raising funds for the benefit of that section of society mostly in need.

Through the game of football solidarity with the less fortunate is a very welcome gesture which helps towards bringing about a change for the better among the Maltese community.
MFA General Secretary Bjorn Vassallo together with representatives of TV stations sports programmes, Christian Micallef (Replay on NET TV) Antvin Monseigneur (L-Argument on ONE TV) and Peter Cossai (Kontrattak on TVM) addressed a press conference on Thursday 11th December during which details of the event were given.
Also present for the press conference were Maria Mifsud, MFA Deputy General Secretary responsible for FSR (Football Social Responsibility) and Rodney Pisani, MFA Deputy General Secretary responsible for Competitions.
This year’s event will be the biggest in this series. Malta’s football fraternity will participate with the contribution of all the three main TV programmes, representatives from all male and female football teams, a team representing the MFA member clubs’ administrators, the MFA Staff and one team made up of sports journalists members of the Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport. A highlight of the evening, which confirms the spirit of unity and solidarity that befits the ‘Gowl għall-Istrina’ event, will be a team made up of personnel from the three football shows produced on NET, ONE and TVM.
A team from the National Sports School under the charge of Premier club coach Paul Zammit and a Gozo Selection of youngsters led by coach Stefan Sultana will also be participating.
Three female teams (11-a-side) representing three regions, Team A, Luxol, Swieqi, Pembroke, Sliema; Team B, Birkirkara, Mgarr, Lija and Mosta; Team C Kirkop, Hibernians, Tarxien, Hamrun and 16 male teams (5-a-side) made up of MFA, GħĠS, TV (NET, ONE, PBS), Standing Committees Member Clubs and 12 mixed teams comprising players from the Premier, First, Second and Third Divisions will also be in the mix.
Programme details of matches were given.
