MFA Director of Refereeing Adrian Casha is currently coaching young referees at UEFA’s Refereeing School of Excellence in Nyon, Switzerland. The 10 day introductory course programme is being attended by 24 young talents aspiring to become the next generation of international referees and assistant referees.  The match officials attending the 28th UEFA CORE (Centre of Refereeing Excellence) Programme hail from Andorra, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Senegal, Seychelles, Turkey and Wales. Adrian Casha is working closely with referee coaches Konrad Plautz (Austria), Jorn West Larsen (Denmark), Jouni Hyttia (Finland) and Ali Mohamed Ahmed (Somalia) under the supervision of CORE Senior Course Leader David Elleray (England). The assistant referees are being mentored by Adriaan Inia (Netherlands) and Maciej Wierzbowski (Poland), while Koen Put (Belgium) and Joao Dias (Portugal) have been appointed as fitness coaches. This UEFA Programme consists of various technical, psychological and physical aspects of a match official’s performance, while emphasis is also being made to anti-racism, proper use of social media and English language proficiency. At the end of this introductory course on Thursday, each participating talent declares his three specific objectives to improve the standard of his officiating. The referees and assistant referees together with their coaches, will meet again at UEFA’s Headquarters for a 7 day Consolidation Course in October. Until then, the young talents submit monthly reports to their coaches about their performances in their respective countries.  The quality of contact with their coaches, as well as the progress achieved in their development areas, enhance their prospects of being awarded a Diploma rather than simply a Certificate of Attendance.
