The BOV First Division kicked-off this weekend with the first seven matches. Newly-promoted Hamrun Spartans and Senglea Athletic both registered wins as they defeated Fgura United 3-1 and Mqabba 2-0 respectively. The other team promoted from Division 2 - San Gwann held Zebbug Rangers in a 1-1.
Pieta Hotspurs, who like Zebbug were relegated from the Premier League, defeated Vittoriosa Stars 1-0. In other matches, Gzira United defeated Lija Athletic and Rabat Ajax beat St. George's with an identical 1-0 score while Melita beat Gudja United 2-1.
