Malta and Azerbaijan did not harm each other once again when in their second encounter they ended in a 0-0 draw, replicating Wednesday’s stalemate. Coach Mark Gatt made few changes from the first match with the inclusions of Rebecca D’Agostino and Martina Borg from the initial minutes replacing Antoinette Sammut and Gabriella Zahra.

A dominant performance from the Maltese in the first half was not enough as the Mark Gatt’s selection was unable to capitalize on their chances. It was the away side though who almost took the lead through a dangerous freekick which Janice Xuereb parried. Malta’s response was immediate and from then on they bossed the game, creating lot of goal-scoring opportunities. Ylenia Carabott had a couple of efforts from which she did not capitalize. Few minutes later it was Dorianne Theuma whom with an outside volley tried to lob over Aytaj Sharifova but the Azerbaijan’s goalkeeper managed to save. 5 minutes later it was Dorianne Theuma again, this time with a low-shot from the edge of the box but one against Sharifova parried well. On the 27th minute, Brenda Borg had almost put Malta ahead but her effort went inches wide with the first half ending at 0-0.

The second half was much less entertaining courtesy of the heavy winds which had a huge impact on the match itself. Azerbaijan were more creative with their striking partners doing most harm to the Maltese backline but without putting the ball into the net. In the dying minutes of the match though, the Maltese looked more spirited and they had the most possession but they struggled to penetrate Azerbaijan’s defensive line with the match ending in another stalemate.
