The Malta boys continued where they left against Belarus by defeating Azerbaijan 3 – 0.

After a goalless half in which the Maltese controlled an Azerbaijan team which was more aggressive and better both in midfield and attack.

Thanks to two great saves by D. Formosa both teams changed sides in a stalemate.

In the second half the Malta lads started moving better on the field of play and it was no surprise that they forged ahead in the 52’  through a great effort by A. Spiteri.

Azerbaijan tried to draw and had a couple of chances foiled by a sound defence and two other saves by D. Formosa.

In their bid to score the draw they left a lot of gaps in midfield which the Maltese boys took advantage of by scoring other two goals through C. Camilleri in the 60’ and again A. Spiteri in the 70’.

Now Malta after this victory leads the group by six points. The next final match will be against Liechtenstein on Monday 28th March at the Centenary Stadium at 13.15hrs.
