Gianluca Lia  Matchday 17 of the BOV Women's 1st Division League commenced yesterday with Mgarr United's 2-1 victory over relegation battlers Raiders (Luxol). It is a result which leaves Kirkop United's hopes of salvation alive as with a win over minnows Pembroke Athleta they would leapfrog Raiders by two points. Meanwhile, the match of the week is undoubtedly the classic rivalry between Hibernians and Birkirkara. While the Paolites have drew two of their last three fixtures, Birkirkara have been on a winning streak which enabled them to reduce the gap to seven points within the leaders. The Stripes will be eyeing to reduce further the distance to just four points prior their last three fixtures, while a Paolites win would see them regain their 10 point advantage which would potentially seal the title.   Hibernians FC 16 matches44 pointsBirkirkara FC16 matches37 pointsMgarr United FC17 matches29 pointsRaiders (Luxol)17 matches14 pointsKirkop United 16 matches13 pointsPembroke Athleta 16 matches1 point  Mosta against Tarxien Rainbows and Sliema Wanderers against Kirkop United Team B will be the couple of fixtures from the second tier. Neither team from both encounters have nothing to ask more from this season, if not to tally the maximum points until the end of the season which would give them a morale boost prior next season. Gozo FC17 matches49 pointsSwieqi United FC17 matches40 pointsHamrun Spartans FC17 matches29 pointsSliema Wanderers FC16 matches21 pointsMosta FC16 matches14 pointsTarxien Rainbows FC17 matches9 pointsKirkop United Team B16 matches2 points Meanwhile, while Kirkop United triumphed in the Under 16's Section B League, the champions spot is still to be conquered in Section A as Tarxien Rainbows are leading by three points ahead of Mgarr United. The Rainbows will be facing Gozo who have been the third force in this section and will surely provide a tough test to the Rainbows. On the other hand, Mgarr will be locking horns with Birkirkara in another tough challenge for the Greens.
