VALLETTA AND HIBERNIANS IN SUPER CUP TIE

The new 2012/2013 local football season will officially get underway with a match to decide the destination of the BOV Super Cup on Friday 3 August when BOV Premier League champions Valletta face U*BET FA Trophy holders Hibernians at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali at 8.00 pm.

Both the City team and the Paolites will be aiming to add another honour to place it in their handsome showcase of cups and trophies. In the 27 previous editions, the first won by Rabat Ajax in season 1984-85, Valletta have been the most prolific recipients of this honour, having landed it no fewer than nine times. They are the current holders of the Super Cup.

On the other hand Hibernians have twice inscribed their names on this prize, with their last success being in season 2006-2007.

Without a shred of doubt, both contestants would dearly want to clinch this honour. A win for Hibernians would mean another cup after their latest triumph in the Euro Challenge Cup some weeks ago, something which would boost their confidence ahead of the league season due to start next month. By contrast, Valletta are setting their sights on making amends for having failed to win the Euro Cup prize and thus establish a psychological advantage over their sporting rivals.

The teams can boast of quality players who are able to offer pleasant fare and regale the crowd to an evening spectacle of football. No quarter will be given as the contestants are expected to lock horns with vim and vigour but always within the parameters of sporting battle of the highest order.

Connoisseurs of the local game are fully aware that Valletta and Hibernians can offer quality fare to whet the appetite of the numerous fans and neutral spectators who are expected at Ta’ Qali.

Tickets are available from both clubs between Saturday 28 July and Wednesday 1 August, while ticket booths will be open on match day from 6.15 pm onwards. Entrance tickets prices are: Adults € 6, Kartanzjan holders € 4 and children € 1.

The MFA notifies that Blue as well as Blue and White Electronic cards for 2011-12 (Valletta and Hibernians) are valid on the day as are Press and Pitch Cards 2011-2012.
