On Tuesday 31 July Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi was a distinguished visitor at the Malta Football Association Headquarters housed at the Millennium Stand of the Ta’ Qali National Stadium Complex.

He was welcomed by the Association’s President Norman Darmanin Demajo, besides other officials, prior to meeting the members of the Executive Committee.

Dr Gonzi, who was accompanied by Dr. Simon Busuttil, met all the Executive Committee members who will be serving for season 2012-2013. The meeting held at the Executive Committee room was very cordial and positive. Views were exchanged as to the plans of the association aimed at ensuring progress in all sectors of the game in our country.

The Prime Minister showed a disposition to listen to the views of the officials and re-asserted the government’s intention to assist the association in its unstinted work for the benefit of Maltese football.

During the meeting various areas of the game which fall under the jurisdiction of the MFA were monitored with a view to opening up new horizons and thus achieving more progress.

At the end of the hour-long meeting Dr Gonzi, himself an avid follower of football, was presented with the Malta national team shirt which will be donned by our players during the upcoming FIFA 2014 World Cup group qualifying matches starting on 7 September with a home match against Armenia.

Undoubtedly, the visit by the Prime Minister proved to be very useful and ensures positive tidings in the MFA’s plans to lift the Maltese game at all levels.
