BOV Women’s First Division

Raiders (Luxol) and Gozo will be commencing this programme, as they cross swords in what is already a delicate encounter for both teams, having ended on the wrong side of a defeat on their inaugural commitments. Raiders lost 0-2 to Kirkop United while Gozo fell at the hands of champions Hibernians, in a respectable 1-2 loss. A win for either side would be crucial, as winning helps winning while a loss would already start to comprise their seasonal plans.

Meanwhile, Hibernians will be facing Mgarr United in the highlight match of the week. Hibernians started their title defence with a 2-1 win on Gozitan soil, against newly-promoted side Gozo and they will be striving to cement their lead atop the top tier, by taking maximum points from this fixture. On the other side, the Greens have opened their First Division’s schedule with a stalemate against the other title challengers, Birkirkara and a win against the title holders, would be a sign of an exciting 2016/2017 campaign.

The other fixture from this division will be between Birkirkara and Kirkop United. Following their 0-0 draw against Mgarr United, Birkirkara are targeting this match as an opportunity to return to winning ways. Meanwhile, Kirkop have started this season with a win and their confidence should be high ahead of this match. Any outcome except from a loss would be tolerant by them, as they strive to reach salvation as quickly as possible.

BOV Women’s Second Division

Following last week’s bye, Swieqi United will be making their debut in this 2016/2017 campaign with an exciting contest against Hamrun Spartans, with both sides producing some spectacular encounters last season. It will be crucially important for Swieqi to take all three points from this encounter, if they want to make a bold statement for the promotion race. In the meantime, the Spartans have initiated on the wrong side this season, as they fell to Mosta and they feel that this match is the right opportunity where to showcase their talent, against a squad who aim to achieve promotion.

In the other fixture, two winning sides from Match day 1 will take on each other, as Tarxien Rainbows will lock horns against Mosta. While the Rainbows took all three points with a victory over Kirkop United Team B, Mosta outscored Hamrun and it won’t be a surprise if throughout the season, they will translate their outsider role to a protagonist one.
