In continuation of previous years’ agreements and experiences between the Referees’ Departments of the Malta FA and the Irish FA – when Maltese and Irish officials controlled domestic top level games in each other’s country – the coming weekend will see the first referee exchange for season 2016-2017.  Elite referees Malcolm Spiteri and Stefan Pace, assistant referees Christopher Francalanza and David Castillo, accompanied by referee observer Charles Micallef, will be travelling to Northern Ireland to control the Premiership League match between Linfield and Ballinamallard United, due to be played at the new National Stadium in Belfast and the Championship League match between Larne u H&W Welders at Inver Park, Larne. On the other hand, referees Keith Kennedy and Neil Robinson, assistant referees Neill Gillespie and Joseph Wilson together with Irish referee observer Trevor Moutray will be coming over to Malta.  Both sets of officials will be in charge of two matches; the referee observers will be appointed for two different matches each. Such matches will serve officials of both sets of refereeing teams personally and also professionally, for the prosperity of their future local and international refereeing careers. These exchanges arepart of the Malta FA’scommitment to upgrade the refereeing sector byprovidingopportunities for further development to our top category officials.  It is envisaged that later on in the season, the Malta FA Refereeing Centre will be in a position to announce other such initiatives.
