Hibernians forward Gilmar Ribeiro da Silva has been named BOV Player of the Month for March 2017.

The Paolites enjoyed a good run in March, collecting wins over Sliema, Mosta and Pembroke to move top of the BOV Premier League.

Gilmar, who has just turned 27, was instrumental in this positive stretch, also scoring a brace in Hibernians’ 4-0 rout of Mosta.

The Brazilian netted Hibs’ first goal after just eight minutes with a stunning shot from 25 metres out.

Gilmar crowned his man-of-the-match display when, in the 53rd minute, he received a cross from Marcelo Dias from the right and tipped the ball past Yenz Cini, the Mosta goalkeeper.

Gilmar topped the voting with a total of 125 points to finish ahead of Birkirkara’s Miguel Angel Alba, on 114 points, and Alan Da Silva Souza, of Balzan, on 97 points.

This is the fourth time Gilmar has clinched this individual award but it is his first for Hibs after winning it three times during his spell with Naxxar Lions.

Marica Ellul, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Paola Branch, presented the trophy for the BOV Player of the Month for March to Gilmar who chose ALS Malta as the beneficiary of the cash donation associated with this award.
