Żejtun close title-winning trek with a bang

Champions Żejtun Corinthians put on a boisterous title party at the Victor Tedesco Stadium after trouncing Mellieħa 5-0 on the final day of the BOV Division Two league.

With this defeat, Mellieħa have been relegated to Division Three along with Għaxaq.

Captain Adrian Carabott scored a brace for Żejtun with the other goals coming from Alan Tabone, Anthony Ewurum and Glen Tabone.


At the end of the match, Alex Manfrè, the Malta FA Vice-President, presented the BOV Division Two champions’ trophy to Carabott in front of around 800 Żejtun fans.


The other promoted teams, Żabbar St Patrick, Qrendi and San Ġwann, also ended their league campaign on a winning note.


Żejtun amassed a total of 65 points, followed by Qrendi on 61, San Ġwann 60 and Żabbar 59.


St George’s retained their Second Division status with a 6-0 win over relegated side Ghaxaq at the Sirens Stadium.
