Birkirkara and Hibernians resume their rivalry on Tuesday evening when they meet in the second semi-final of the Women’s Knock-Out competition. Having stormed to the BOV Division One title after going through the season unbeaten, Birkirkara will be looking to keep their double bid alive but they will be against a fired-up Hibernians side, the KO holders. Stephania Farrugia, the Birkirkara FC captain who is one of three nominees for the MFA Best Women Player of the Year award, acknowledged that the signings the club made last summer improved the squad’s quality. ‘’From the beginning of the season, the squad showed that it had potential and the acquisitions made by the club had a very positive impact,’’ Farrugia told www.mfa.com.mt. A first-choice player for both club and country, Farrugia is now eyeing a league and cup double. ‘’It’s a dream come true… our sacrifices have been rewarded,” Farrugia said. “This wouldn’t have been possible were it not for the coaches and the staff who supported us all the way. ‘’Our aim is to bring home the Knock-Out trophy as well.’’ The Cup is Hibernians’ only hope of silverware this season after they missed out on the league crown to the impressive Birkirkara girls. In the first semi-final at the Centenary Stadium, Kirkop United take on Mġarr United with a berth in the final on the line. Both teams have never won the KO, with Mġarr coming close to securing a place in the final last season when they lost to Raiders (Luxol) after extra-time in the semi-finals. KO SEMI-FINALSCENTENARY STADIUM: 18.00 Kirkop United vs Mġarr United; 20.00 Birkirkara vs Hibernians
