Malta U-21 team suffer 3-0 defeat to Sweden

Sweden proved too strong for the Malta U-21 team, winning the UEFA U-21 Group 6 qualifier 3-0 at Olympia in Helsingborg on Tuesday evening. Molde defender Isak Ssewankambo put the Swedes on the way to victory after opening the scoring on 31 minutes. The hosts sealed their win with a double from Malmo striker Carlos Strandberg in the 50th and 70th minutes. It was Sweden’s second victory in three matches while Malta suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. Silvio Vella’s team play their first home match against Turkey on November 10 at the Centenary Stadium. MALTA FORMATIONPhilip Schranz, Jean Borg, Kurt Zammit, Karl Micallef, Dunstan Vella, Matthew Guillaumier (54 Juan Corbalan), Joseph Mbong (80 Zachary Scerri), Jake Grech, Kyrian Nwoko, Jurgen Degabriele (84 Dexter Xuereb), Myles Beerman. Referee: Luis Teixeira (Portugal).
