MFA saddened by death of ex-Żurrieq player Leonard Zammit

The Malta Football Association is saddened by the news of the death of former player Leonard Zammit who passed away over the weekend.

Zammit, who was 29, came through the youth ranks of Żurrieq FC, making his debut for the club in 2004 at the age of 16. He spent almost six seasons with Żurrieq before joining Kirkop United.


Zammit, who also played futsal for Sirens and Safi, called time on his competitive football career during season 2011-12.


The Maltese football community is also mourning the death of Alfred Debattista, a former MFA Council Member who also sat on several MFA boards.


Debattista, who was also the Chief Security Officer of the Malta FA, was 80.


The Malta FA sends its profound condolences to the families of Leonard Zammit and Alfred Debattista during this difficult time.


A minute’s silence in memory of Zammit and Debattista will be observed before the matches from the BOV leagues this coming wekend.
