GŻIRA UNITED 2
MOSTA             2

Mosta rescued a point at the death after Tyrone Farrugia scored in the dying minutes in a 2-2 draw with Gżira United at the Tedesco Stadium.

The Blues took a 10th-minute lead. Thomas Veronese’s cross was deflected by Sem Kamana whose scrambled clearance sailed past the startled Justin Haber in the Gżira goal.

On the half-hour, Gżira had a great chance to equalise.

Jonas Ekani was adjudged to have floored Emmanuel Okoye in the box. Referee Alan Mario Sant pointed to the spot but Andrew Cohen’s shot was blocked by Mosta goalkeeper Andreas Vella.

The Maroons levelled six minutes later when Cohen freed Moises Avila Perez who rifled a powerful shit past Vella.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, Gżira were awarded their second penalty after Ekani fouled Cohen.
Samba made no mistake from the spot to put Gżira ahead but their hopes of returning to winning ways were dashed in stoppage time.

In a fast Mosta counter-attack, Ferreira ran into the box from the right before crossing for the unmarked Farrugia who buried the ball home.

ĦAMRUN SPARTANS 2
NAXXAR LIONS 0

Ħamrun Spartans scored a goal in each half to beat Naxxar Lions 2-0 in Saturday’s second match at the Tedesco Stadium.

Both teams were determined to take something from this match after losing their last game – the Spartans went down to Sliema Wanderers while Naxxar lost to Floriana.

On 16 minutes, Yuri Messias’s shot for Naxxar came off the base of the post.

It was the Spartans who forged ahead six minutes from half-time when Cristian Zaccardo released Francisco Manuel Clavero who hit past Christoph Nicht.

Jacques Scerri’s side sealed their win 20 minutes into the second half when Terrence Agius passed to Thiaguinho Espindola who beat Nicht for the second time with a low strike.
