The methods and approach of new Malta coach Tom Saintfiet have left a very positive impression on striker Michael Mifsud, the country’s most capped player and record scorer with 40 goals. Saintfiet, from Belgium, will take charge of his first match as national coach on Sunday when Malta meet Estonia in a friendly match at the National Stadium (kick-off 3 p.m.). “There is a good atmosphere,” the Valletta FC striker said.  “The coach is very prepared, he has his ideas and knows exactly what he wants from every player. We are looking forward to this match. Everyone is excited to play the first match under the new coach.” Estonia may have lost 3-0 to Finland in a friendly match on Thursday but they have improved by leaps and bounds in recent years. They collected 11 points in 2018 World Cup qualifying Group H and are currently ranked 80th by FIFA. “Estonia are ranked 80th on the FIFA list, 100 places above us,” Mifsud said. “They have sustained their improvement since we last played them. They have good individual players. “As far as we’re concerned, we are going out on the pitch to try and win, produce a good performance and enjoy the game.” The last meeting between Malta and Estonia, a friendly match in Tallinn in August last year, ended 1-1. PISANI’S VIEWSFloriana FC midfielder Steve Pisani echoed Mifsud’s comments on the atmosphere in the Malta squad, saying that the mood is upbeat. From a personal viewpoint, Pisani said he is eager to build on his positive start to the season for both club ans country. “I’m satisfied about my performances this season but I’m also determined to continue where I left off (before this international break,” Pisani said. “I want to keep working hard so that when I’m called upon to play, I give my 100 per cent.” Meanwhile, Saintfiet promoted Malta U-21 forwards Kyrian Nwoko and Jurgen Degabriele to the senior squad on Friday. Both featured in the Malta U-21s’ 1-0 defeat to Turkey on Friday afternoon. Entrance for the Malta-Estonia friendly is free. Gates open at 13.30
