Hibernians overcame the first-half dismissal of Jorge Elias dos Santos in the first half to edge past Victoria Hotspurs 2-1 on Saturday.

The Paolites were off to a geat start as Ferdinando Apap’s own goal gave them a 1-0 lead after four minutes.


They were in control until Jorge was dismissed for kicking out at an opponent.


The Hotspurs equalised on 64 minutes thanks to a well-taken free-kick by Elton but Johann Bezzina’s low drive won it for


Hibs 10 minutes from the end.


Hibs will meet either Xewkija Tigers or Vittoriosa Stars in the next round.





Xewkija Tigers stormed into the fourth round of the FA Trophy after a comprehensive 4-0 win over first division side Vittoriosa Stars. 


In the next round, the Gozitan champions will meet their Maltese counterparts, Hibernians FC. 


The game was balanced in the opening 60 minutes but Xewkija opened the scoring on 62 minutes with a strike from Rodney Buttigieg who received from Claudio Antunes. 


Vittoriosa’s reaction was sterile as Xewkija defended well and operated with effective counter-breaks.
The Tigers secured their win with three quick goals from Antunes, who scored a brace, and Joseph Mario Vella made it 4-0.

Kerċem Ajax registered an impressive 5-1 win over first division side Żebbuġ Rangers to became the second team from the Gozitan championship to make it to the fourth round of the competition.


They will meet Qrendi in the fourth round.


Kerċem paved the way for their emphatic win with three goals in the last four minutes of the first half.


Andrew Mizzi opened the scoring on 42 minutes when his free-kick was deflected past goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia.


Two minutes later, Jean Paul Mizzi doubled their advantage with a low shot and in the first minute of stoppage time, Ognjen Rolovic made it 3-0 with a close-range header.


Żebbuġ pulled one back on 61 minutes thanks to Rafael Da Silva Gomes’s header but less than a minute later, Kerċem re-established their three-goal lead with a header by Andrew Mizzi from another corner action.


On 71 minutes, Kerċem sealed their victory with a goal from Alexander Komiljenovic.
