Lija, Tarxien set up fourth-round cup encounter

LIJA ATHLETIC 4KALKARA         0 Lija Athletic found no difficulty beating Kalkara 4-0 to set up a fourth-round clash with Tarxien Rainbows in the BOOST Diesel FA Trophy.  Raphael Kooh Sohna scored twice in the first half gave Lija a 2-0 lead.Lija scored their third goal five minutes into the second half when Leeroy Bonnet tripped Abubaker Bello Osagie in the box. From the penalty spot, the Nigerian forward made no mistake. Kooh Sohna completed his hat-trick close to the hour. In the dying stages, both teams were reduced to 10 men after Aiden Galea and Matthew Schembri were shown the red card. FARRUGIA STRIKES WINNERMOSTA 2MQABBA 1 Mosta had to fight harder than expected to see off the challenge of Mqabba and progress to the fourth round of the BOOST Diesel FA Trophy where they will meet Żejtun Corinthians. Mosta debutant Godwin Blessing Henshaw went close after five minutes but his shot ended high. The Blues opened the scoring on 17 minutes with a first-time shot by Edison Bilbao Zarate following a cross by Rodriguez Ekani from the left flank.Mqabba drew level three minutes from half-time with a brilliant free-kick by Michael Borg but Tyrone Farrugia’s close-range strike clinched the tie for Mosta. EASY FOR SAN ĠWANN SAN ĠWANN 3MELITA          0San Ġwann eased past fellow first division side Melita 3-0 to set up a fourth round clash with Birkirkara. After a goalless first half, San Ġwann went ahead into the second half thanks to a penalty by Daniel Chavez Flores after Jan Tanti was tripped inside the area. Tanti added a second a minute past the hour. To make matters worse, the Amateurs had captain Jean Pierre Attard dismissed on 70 minutes. Chavez Flores’s second goal sealed the issue for the Saints. PIETÀ WIN IN EXTRA-TIME SIĠĠIEWI                2PIETÀ HOTSPURS 3 Pietà Hotspurs had the better of second division side Siggiewi 3-2 in extra-time to progress to a fourth-round cup tie with Valletta. Juan Manuel Artiaga Roa gave Hotspurs a third-minute lead but Eman Ciappara equalised on 26 minutes. Pietà’s Quincy Bregman was dismissed with 19 minutes remaining but Siġġiewi failed to capitalise on their extra man. The game went into extra-time with Gabriel Mensah restoring the lead for Pietà 10 minutes in the first half of extra-time. Trayo Grozev levelled for Siġġiewi three minutes later but substitute Jan Busuttil made it 3-2 in the 105th minute. ŻEJTUN'S EARLY FLURRY MARSAXLOKK              0ŻEJTUN CORINTHIANS3 Żejtun Corinthians eased into the fourth round of the FA Trophy after a 3-0 win over neighbours Marsaxlokk on Sunday. Luis Andre de Melo Lima put Żejtun ahead inside the opening two minutes and doubled their lead on the 14th. Żejtun’s early flurry continued when Miguel Ciantar, who had just replaced Saturday Nanapere, got the third goal on the 16 minutes. TARXIEN THROUGH SWIEQI UNITED 0TARXIEN RAINBOWS 3 Tarxien Rainbows cruised into the fourth round of the FA Trophy after beating second division leaders Swieqi United 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday. The Rainbows broke the stalemate through Matar Dieye seven minutes from the end of the first half.  Matthew Brincat put them 2-0 up 10 minutes into the second half and on the hour, Dieye struck his second to seal Tarxien’s passage to the fourth round. Two minutes into stoppage time, Swieqi’s Kyle Muscat was shown the red card for two bookings. In the fourth round, Tarxien Rainbows face Lija Athletic. QRENDI UPSET QORMI QRENDI 2QORMI 0 Qrendi surprised Division One leaders Qormi, beating them 2-0 to advance to the fourth round of the FA Trophy where they will meet Kerċem Ajax. Dhonathan Santos da Hora (15) and Petar Mrvic (60) scored Qrendi’s goals.
