The BOV Super Cup will be at stake at the National Stadium on Wednesday when Hibernians take on Floriana in the annual contest between the reigning champions and the FA Trophy holders.

Expectations of an entertaining, hard-fought encounter are high as both teams will be going all out to end their year on a flying note by lifting the final honour in 2017.

For Hibs, Wednesday’s final (kick-off 15.00) is an opportunity to atone for their 1-0 defeat to Balzan in a top-of-the-table league clash last Saturday.

“Playing this game, Christmas time and during the week, it keeps the players concentrated during the festive season as well now,” Mark Miller, the Hibernians coach, told the pre-match news conference.

“When you lose a game at the weekend, you have a quick chance to bounce back and win a trophy. Every trophy is important and we’ll be taking it very seriously... we will try to win it.”

Nicolas Chiesa, the new Floriana coach, is relishing the prospect to lead the Greens to a trophy in what will be only his second match in charge since replacing Giovanni Tedesco.

“For me, it’s a very important game,” the Argentine said.

“Certainly there is a cup at stake. We are coming from 10 difficult days after our first defeat of the season in the derby and our exit from the FA Trophy.

“We have recovered at various levels, result-wise, mentally and physically. We are prepared.
