Italy-based Borg and Sciberras join Malta squad

Foreign-based players Martina Borg (Apulia Trani) and Nicole Sciberras (AS Grifone Gialloverde) have joined the Malta women’s squad ahead of this evening’s friendly match against Estonia at the Centenary Stadium (kick-off 6.30 p.m.).  The Maltese team, led by coach Mark Gatt, will be looking to make amends for their narrow 1-0 defeat to Estonia in the first friendly, played last Monday. The 21-year-old Borg, who plays up front, and Sciberras, a 16-year-old defender, are not the only new faces in Gatt’s squad for today’s friendly. Gatt has also called up defenders Charlene Cassia (Mġarr United) and Yasmeen Vella (Birkirkara). Hibs defender Rebecca Bajada and Mġarr United striker Roxanne Micallef haved pulled out of the squad due to injuries. SQUAD Goalkeepers: Janice Xuereb (Birkirkara); Patricia Ebejer (Mġarr United).Defenders: Annmarie Said, Stephania Farrugia, Yasmeen Vella (all Birkirkara); Andy Zammit Mizzi (Raiders); Charlene Zammit, Jade Flask, (both Hibernians); Nicole Sciberras (AS Grifone Gialloverde); Charlene Cassia (Mġarr United).Midfielders: Gabriella Zahra, Alishia Sultana (both Birkirkara); Mandy Debono, Shona Zammit, Emma Xuereb (all Hibernians); Claudette Xuereb, Brenda Borg (Mġarr United).Strikers: Maria Farrugia (Sunderland); Raina Giusti (Birkirkara); Martina Borg (ASD Apulia Trani).
