The BOV Division One championship resumes this weekend with an interesting programme – four matches on Easter Saturday and three on Monday.

The highlight of matchday 23 is Saturday’s clash between runaway leaders Qormi and promotion hopefuls Żejtun Corinthians at the Centenary Stadium.

Seven points clear at the top, Qormi would all but seal promotion if they take maximum points from their encounter with Żejtun.

On the other hand, Żejtun are one of the in-form teams in a balanced Division One Championship, having won their last six league matches on the bounce.

They currently share third spot with Mqabba on 41 points with four matches remaining. The Corinthians need a win to keep their promotion hopes alive.

The first-round match between Qormi and Żejtun finished 1-1.

Saturday’s first fixture at the Centenary Stadium sees promotion candidates Mqabba take on Żabbar St Patrick.

These clubs have different ambitions as Mqabba need the points to step up their promotion push while Żabbar need a win to ease their relegation fears ahead of the last three matches of the season.

Mqabba edged out Żabbar 2-1 in the first round.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday (2pm), Pembroke Athleta meet Qrendi in a game between two mid-table sides.

The first-round game ended 1-1.

DIRECT CLASH

At 4.15pm, Żebbuġ Rangers take on San Ġwann in another interesting encounter.

Only one point separates the two sides who are still in contention for third place and a promotion play-off spot against the team finishing third from last in the BOV Premier League.

San Ġwann are on a roll, winning eight matches in a row to revive their promotion hopes.

In the first round, San Ġwann and Żebbuġ shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

On Monday, the only match at the Centenary Stadium, starting at 7pm, sees promotion-bound Pieta’ Hotspurs meet Sirens who are clear of relegation trouble.

The Hotspurs start as favourites but they will be wary of Sirens who gave them a rough ride in the first round, going down 3-2.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Melita face a do-or-die scenario against Vittoriosa Stars.

Second-from-bottom, four points behind Marsa, Melita need a strong finale to the season if they are to have any hopes of avoiding the drop.

Melita beat Vittoriosa 2-1 in the first round.

Same situation for Marsa who will be involved in a direct clash with bottom side Rabat Ajax who look destined for relegation.

Marsa and Rabat were involved in a 1-1 draw in the first round.
