


Doncic upbeat ahead of home match against Zrinjski

Valletta FC flew back to Malta on Thursday night in high spirits after Mario Fontanella’s last equaliser boosted their hopes of progressing to the third qualifying round of the Europa League following a 1-1 draw against Bosnian champions Zrinjski in Mostar.
It was a positive day for Maltese clubs in Europe as, an hour earlier, Balzan claimed a prestigious 2-1 win over Slovakian side SK Slovan Bratislava at the Centenary Stadium
Danilo Doncic, the Valletta FC coach, was pleased with his team’s resilient performance in Mostar, especially after their undeserved elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Albanian side Kukesi.
“We were very disappointed after our elimination from the Champions League the week before,” Doncic said.
“Before the game, my message to the players was clear… we were the best team in Malta last season but we have to show that again. We must avoid silly mistakes, put the Kukesi games behind us and focus on Zrinskji”.
