On the eve of the Under 21 Group 6 Qualifier between Malta and Belgium, coach Silvio Vella has conveyed his satisfaction with the progress of his players, such progress reflected with the promotion of most of them to the senior team.

In the MD-1 Press Conference coach Vella said: “Joseph (Mbong) and Juan (Corbalan) were part of my plans for this game (against Belgium), nevertheless it is always a satisfaction to see our work paying off.

“It’s good to obtain results and points on board, thus tomorrow will be another intense 90 minutes for us trying for a good performance and do our best to upset the Red Devils.

“Nevertheless, more than anything, our job is to guide these young players on the right path, enhance their skills, and help them through their development.

“Every football player targets to play for his country at senior level.

“The more players are promoted to the senior squad the better for us to introduce more talent coming up, and give them the opportunity to have their space and shine at this Under 21 level.”

Our opponents Belgium are level on points at the top of the table with Sweden on 17 points, six ahead of Hungary.

The Malta vs Belgium UEFA U21 European Championship Group 6 Qualifier takes place on Friday at 5pm at the Centenary Stadium.
