Valletta produced a goal spree as they outclassed newly-promoted Qormi 6-0 at the National Stadium on Friday.

Bojan Kaljevic set the champions on the way to victory when he opened the scoring after 14 minutes, heading Miguel Alba’s cross.

Qormi managed to limit the damage until the half-time break but 12 minutes into the second half, Alba put Valletta 2-0 up from the penalty spot after Mario Fontanella had been brought down inside the box.

On the hour, Fontanella made it 3-0 after receiving from Kaljevic following an Alba cross.

Valletta pressed for more goals.  Matteo Piciollo raced into the box, swept past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi and his drive rolled towards goal with Kaljevic applying the final touch.

With 10 minutes left, Valletta made it 5-0, Fontanella scoring his second after being released by Kaljevic.

The Valletta forwards continued to torment the Qormi defenders.

Two minutes from time, Piciollo served substitute Bogdan Gavrila on the right and the Romanian winger rounded a defender before beating the Qormi goalkeeper with an angled shot.

Three minutes later, Tyrone Farrugia levelled for Mosta with a firm shot from inside the area.

Senglea Athletic got off the mark after scoring a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Pietà Hotspurs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday.

Enzo Potenza took charge of his first game as Senglea coach. He handed starting slots to Leighton Grech and the three new signings Fabrizio Bramati, Matias Garcia and Augusto Rene Caseres with the latter having played for the Yellow-Reds last season.

The Hotspurs grabbed the lead in the 16th minute when Jan Busuttil’s measured cross from the right was headed home by Paul Chimezie.

A good effort by the lively Busuttil, served by Nakamura, was touched away by Matthew Farrugia with the aid of the crossbar.

In the second half, the Hotspurs went close again as Chimezie’s effort came off the foot of the post 20 minutes from the end.

The Hotspurs were made to pay for their missed chances as seven minutes from time, captain Ferdinando Salvati equalised with a direct free-kick to salvage a point for Senglea.
