Football’s ability to inspire and unite came to the fore last weekend as the Malta FA teamed up with the Youth FA and other partners to celebrate UEFA Grassroots Week.

Held between September 22 and 30, 2018, the events, co-ordinated by the Grassroots, Women’s Football and Football Social Responsibility Departments within the Malta FA, kicked off with an inclusive training session by the youth nursery of top-flight club Pietà Hotspurs.

The session featured the participation of youth players and refugees by way of promoting inclusiveness and integration, a commendable gesture by Pietà Hotspurs.

On Friday, September 28, the Malta FA organised a tournament for inactive female players at the Mtarfa FC pitches. The aim of this event was to encourage women who were part of this movement to stay active in football and follows similar tournaments for over-35 players held over the past months.

The Malta FA Women’s Football Department is striving to maintain contact with former players and members as these can serve as an inspiration for the younger generations while strengthening the future of the women’s game in the fields of administration and coaching.

On September 29, the Ħamrun Spartans FC Youth Nursery hosted an activity with Frame Football Malta where children using a frame to walk joined in a training session with players from the Premier League Football youth sector.

Later in the afternoon, the Malta FA further raised awareness for the UEFA Grassroots Week during the World Heart Day activities at two BOV Premier League matches.

On the closing day of this year’s UEFA Grassroots Week, young players from several football nurseries took part in an event hosted by the Dingli Nursery, involving fun water games and football activities.

The overriding message is that the Beautiful Game can be enjoyed by all.

The Malta FA believes that football, with its endless benefits and global appeal, should be accessible to everyone, and the UEFA Grassroots Week was the perfect opportunity to promote this concept.

The Malta FA and Youth FA thank all the partners who contributed to a successful UEFA Grassroots Week.

These were awarded footballs while the participating children were given T-Shirts, provided by UEFA.
