Fontanella grabs fourth consecutive brace this season

4 – Valletta striker Mario Fontanella grabbed his fourth consecutive brace in the 4-0 win over Pietà Hotspurs last Saturday. The other three were registered against Qormi (21.09.18), Senglea Athletic (28.09.18) and Balzan (05.10.18). The Italian forward, who tops the scoring charts with nine goals, has scored in every win for the champions this season.  20 – Mosta goalkeeper Andreas Vella was the youngest to concede last weekend as his side went down 2-1 to Sliema Wanderers... he turned 20 last week. 40 – Brazilian forward Alex Da Paixao Alves’ stoppage-time goal in Balzan’s 2-0 win against Floriana was the 40th scored during the second half at the Victor Tedesco Stadium this season. Alves has scored five goals this season – all at the Tedesco Stadium. 40 – St Andrew’s 2-0 win over Qormi was their 40th victory in the Premier League ... the first one dates back to 12th October, 1991 when they edged Mqabba (1-0). 50 – Sequel to their 2-0 victory over Tarxien Rainbows, Birkirkara are now enjoying a +50 goal difference in their 33 direct encounters. While Birkirkara scored 73 goals, the Rainbows have only found the net 23 times against the Stripes. 80 – Hibernians overcame Ħamrun Spartans 2-1 with the winning goal being scored by Joseph Mbong. In scoring his first goal this season, Mbong became the 80th player to find the net in the top flight this term. 140 – Valletta’s 4-0 win over Pietà Hotspurs was Danilo Doncic’s 140th game in the top flight as a coach. Incidentally, the Serbian made his coaching debut in the BOV Premier League with Floriana in a 3-2 victory over Valletta on 27th August, 2007. Since then, Doncic has also coached Sliema Wanderers, Tarxien Rainbows, Mosta and St Andrews. 150 – Qormi’s 2-0 defeat against St Andrews was their 150th game without a goal in the top flight. 200 – Gżira United midfielder Zach Scerri was shown the 200th yellow card of the season during their 1-0 win against Senglea Athletic on Friday. 290 – Mosta’s 2-1 loss against Sliema Wanderers was their 290th match in the top flight .... their debut was on 12th October, 1974, losing 1-0 to Floriana. 660 – Valletta forward Miguel Angel Alba’s converted penalty was the 660th goal conceded by Pietà Hotspurs in the Premier League.
