The Malta U-17 women’s team will face France, Iceland and Belarus in the qualifying round of the 2019/20 UEFA European Women’s U-17 Championship.

Belarus will host the Group 3 tournament in September 2019.

Malta were in Pot D for the qualifying round draw, held at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters on Friday morning, along with Croatia, Montenegro, FYR Macedonia, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Georgia and Albania.

Dorianne Theuma, the coach of the Malta U-17 women's team, said: "We have been drawn in a very tough group but it will surely be a great experience for the girls.

"We will be doing our best to prepare our team for this great challenge. I'm optimistic that, with hard work and dedication, we can aspire to achieve positive results in this tournament."

Anne Rei, chairwoman of the UEFA Women's Football Committee, and Laura Haas, who received the 2018 WU17 EURO Fair Play prize on behalf of last season’s Germany team, presided over the draw.

The top two team in every group together with the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top two in their section join Spain and Germany in the elite round draw on 22 November 2019, with the games in spring 2020.

Seven teams will eventually qualify to join Sweden in the finals in May 2020.
