A tricky test awaits champions Birkirkara this week as they face a resilient Mġarr United, currently occupying second place, at the Charles Abela Stadium (Mosta) tomorrow (kick-off: 8.15pm).

Birkirkara are on a roll as they have a perfect record of 11 straight wins in this year's BOV Women’s League campaign, scoring 50 goals in the process and conceding only two.

The Stripes are also in the semi-finals of the Knock-Out competition, having beaten Swieqi United 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

Melania Bajada’s team have a six-point lead over Mġarr, meaning that a win against the Greens would virtually seal their third consecutive title.

On the other hand, victory for Mġarr United would reopen the title issue, given that the two teams will meet again in the second phase.

Birkirkara and Mġarr United have three matches remaining before the teams will be divided into two sections – Championship Pool (1st-4th) and Relegation Pool (5th-8th).

Mġarr United are also exploiting their qualities, scoring 40 goals in 11 games and conceding only six throughout their 11 league appointments.

Forward Haley Bugeja, scorer of 17 goals, has the ability to rise to the occasion on the big stage… a test for her qualities which have been instrumental for the Greens this season.

Meanwhile, Hibernians face Kirkop United in one of Tuesday’s games. The Paolites are currently third, five points adrift of Mġarr United but six points ahead of Kirkop United, adding to the importance of this game.

Elsewhere, Mosta, who have five points so far, meet Raiders (Luxol) who have 10 points to show after 11 games. Bottom side Fgura United, who are still looking for their first win, meet Swieqi United who are joint-fifth on 10 points.

LEAGUE STANDINGS (after 11 matches)
Birkirkara 33 points; Mġarr United 27; Hibernians 22; Kirkop United 16; Swieqi United, Raiders 10; Mosta 5; Fgura United 2.
