The Malta FA Academy (Under-14) team are currently taking part in the prestigious Trofeo Caroli Hotels, being played in the Italian town of Santa Maria Di Leuca.

Led by coach Paul Gatt, the Maltese boys enjoyed a very positive start to the tournament, beating the Sorrento Academy team 3-0 in their opening Group D match.

Myron Micallef, Matthias Said and Isaiah Chukunyere scored the goals for the Malta U-14 selection in Friday’s victory.

The other teams in Malta’s group are the Under-14 selections of Juventus and Lecce who drew their opening match 0-0 on Friday.

In their second match, the Maltese boys made it two wins out of two after beating Lecce 2-0 with goals from Matthias Said and Kian Leonardi.

On Saturday evening, Malta U-14s suffered their first defeat, losing 2-0 to Juventus who topped the group with seven points.

LAST 16

The Malta U-14 side claimed second spot to advance to a Last 16 meeting with Inter.

Sunday's match saw Inter take an early 2-0 lead with goals from Grieco and Esposito but the Maltese boys settled as the game wore on.

A goal by Zak Barbara on 50 minutes, after Ensell Attard's penalty had come off the woodwork, revived Maltese hopes but the Inter youngsters held on to set up a quarter-final match against Atalanta.

On Monday, the Malta U-14 team meet Spal in a friendly match.
