Luxol couldn’t end the futsal season on a better note as they completed a league and cup double after winning the Knock-Out competition on Thursday.  In a keenly-contested encounter at the Corradino Pavilion, Luxol sealed their double success after beating Valletta 6-2. It was Valletta who took the lead inside the opening three minutes courtesy of Dylan Musu. Luxol equalised immediately thanks to Andy Mangion with Leanderson Sant’ Anna Coriolano also finding the net just before half-time to put Luxol in front. The match remained wide open but seven minutes into the second half, Luxol moved 3-1 up after a shot was deflected into the net off Musu. Emboldened by this goal, Luxol increased their lead through Nicola Del Re, the team’s captain on the day. In the last eight minutes, Luxol secured their win with goals from Celino Alves and Leanderson. In the dying moments, Mohamed Abdussalam Elamari reduced the arrears for Valletta but Luxol were already home and dry. After the end of the match, Dr Matthew Paris, the Malta FA Vice-President who oversees the futsal sector, assisted by Mireille Vella and J.B. Grech, presented the medals to the match officials and Luxol players. Luxol’s celebrations reached a crescendo when Dr Paris presented the KO trophy to Nicola Del Re and Mark Zammit. Also this week, Tarxien Rainbows won the last Promotion Play-Off, beating Pietà Hotspurs 4-0.
