The recently-launched masterplan for the Malta National Park project at Ta’ Qali was discussed during a consultation meeting between Malta FA officials and Dr Ian Borg, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects. The Government has announced plans to create more open and recreational spaces for the general public by transforming 450,000 square metres of land in the Ta’ Qali area into a National Park. Friday’s meeting, held at the Malta Football Association offices, enabled different stakeholders to pore over important aspects of the masterplan for the regeneration of the Ta’ Qali area. Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo emphasised the importance of synergy between all the stakeholders in the area which is traditionally regarded as a hub for sports and leisure activities. In this context, Ta’ Qali is typically busier during weekends when sporting and other public events are held in the area. The meeting was also attended by Dr Angelo Chetcuti, the General Secretary of the Malta FA, Frederick Azzopardi, Chief Executive Officer of Infrastructure Malta, Jason Micallef, the Co-ordinator of the Malta National Park Project, Paul Sultana, the President of the Malta Basketball Association (MBA), and architect Mark Borg. Both the Malta FA and MBA have their headquarters and main facilities located in Ta’ Qali.
