Birkirkara, Mġarr United share spoils in top match

After matchday three of the 2019-20 BOV Women’s League, there is a now a trio of teams at the top of. Swieqi United had the better of Kirkop United 5-0 to profit from the 1-1 draw between Birkirkara and Mġarr United, joining last year’s champions and runners-up in first place with seven points.

Swieqi United vs Kirkop United 5-0


Swieqi took the three points after a resounding 5-0 victory over Kirkop United.


Jade Flask propelled the Oranges into a two-goal lead in the first 45 minutes. After the break, former Kirkop United forward Demi Magrin struck a third with a well-hit shot from the edge of the area.


In the closing stages, Malta skipper Dorianne Theuma opened her Swieqi account as she grabbed a brace.


Swieqi United had Kelly Agius Pace sent off in the first half.


Raiders Għargħur vs Mosta 0-0


Raiders Għargħur and Mosta fired blanks in a goalless stalemate.


Raiders now have now two points while Mosta obtained their first point in their second match.


Mġarr United vs Birkirkara 1-1 


Mġarr United and Birkirkara were involved in a keenly-contested match with the Stripes dominating proceedings in the early stages.


Haley Bugeja, the Women’s League top scorer last season, put Mġarr Unitedahead after 27 minutes, netting her first goal of the season.


Birkirkara levelled terms before half-time when Ann-Marie Said surprised Mġarr Uinted goalkeeper Rachelle Borg with a splendid free-kick from long range.


After the change of ends, Birkirkara made three changes, with Esther Douye Toikumo was making her first appearance for the club, but the score remained unchanged.
