Following the incident that occurred during the BOV Third Division League match between Santa Venera Lightnings FC and Kirkop United FC, played at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday 31st October, 2019, the Malta Football Association’s foremost priority is the health of the player, Yau Mun Law. The Malta FA is informed that a Magisterial Inquiry is underway. The Association welcomes this inquiry and is co-operating and assisting to the full. Meanwhile, the procedures undertaken to assist the player have been established from the personnel involved. First assistance was given by the Malta FA paramedic on duty who applied CPR procedure with the use of the AED on site, in line with standard medical protocol. Valuable assistance was also given by a photographer who was covering the match. Upon their arrival, the Emergency Medical and Paramedical team took over immediately. As an immediate response, the Association will be providing psychological support to both teams and match officials involved in the match. The Malta FA will be making no further comment in light of the ongoing Magisterial Inquiry. The Association also urges the General Public to exercise caution when commenting on this incident until all the factual details related to the case have been established. At a more appropriate time, the Association would be more than willing to communicate further on the standard medical safeguards taken during football matches at all levels, which are often played simultaneously at different venues.
