The qualifying round draw of the UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 was made on Thursday at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters. Malta have been drawn in Group C along with Poland, Sweden and Greece. The Malta FA will host the four-team tournament at the National Sport School in the January-February period next year. The draw means that Malta will again face Sweden who had hosted the FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifying group in Alingsas earlier this year. Sweden, who were in Pot 2 for Thursday’s draw, had prevailed 5-1. Last month, the Malta futsal team, led by Dutch coach Vic Hermans, played two friendly matches against Armenia in preparation for this UEFA Futsal EURO 2020 tournament. Armenia won the first friendly convincingly but Malta bounced back to force a 3-3 draw in the second warm-up. The UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 has a new format with an expanded 16-team final tournament in the Netherlands. For the first time, 50 nations are taking part with 33 of them involved in the qualifying round.
