Malta to host UEFA Regions’ Cup mini-tournament in 2020

The UEFA Regions’ Cup, Europe’s top competition for amateur representative teams, returns with 36 associations involved. The Malta Representative Amateur Team is among eight sides starting in the preliminary round with four teams to join 28 others in the intermediate round. Malta will host the four-team tournament which also comprises Kazakhstan, Belarus and North Macedonia following the draw made on Tuesday. The Group matches will be played from 24-30 May, 2020. The top two teams in each group progress to the intermediate round. The winners of Group B will advance to Group 2 of the intermediate round with Croatia, Italy and Lithuania the other teams in the pool. The runners-up of the preliminary round group involving Malta will go into Group 4 which also comprises Spain, Northern Ireland and Serbia. Michael Kraus, captain of 2019 finals hosts Bavaria, who received the Respect Fair Play trophy on behalf of his team from UEFA Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti, conducted the preliminary and intermediate round draws. The other preliminary round group, to be played in the third week of July, will be hosted by Sweden. Georgia, Estonia and Azerbaijan are the other teams in Group A.
